RECORDING
If you produce & mix your own songs, you may wish to avail the studio’s recording facility. A typical session may be recording vocals through high end microphones and preamps with or without compression and eq. Recording of guitars through valve amps, re-amping guitar tracks through valve amps, recording of a real drum kit to substitute programmed drums, laying down bass lines or any instrumentation you require can be catered for.
Entire performances were recorded in single takes, sometimes with just 1 or 2 mics. Today though, we use a more sophisticated process known as multitrack recording where each instrument is recorded separately and combined later in a “mix”. It allows engineers to mould and shape the sound of each instrument independently of the others. It allows each instrument in a song to be recorded one at a time. With this new method, it meant that one man could now do alone, what used to require an entire team of engineers and musicians.

MIXING
Once the tracks are arranged exactly as you like, the next goal is to make them blend as one cohesive unit, through the process of mixing.
Our mixes respect the story of the song and will ensure no distractions from the vision of the artist.
Using your original mix as a reference point, we can usually quickly highlight the areas that need improvement. Utilising selected plug-ins and high end outboard equipment, we can add the professional sheen that can often be missing.
Its true that artists can mix any song on their headphones or monitors, but its a fact that mixes translates well when done in a professional acoustic treated environment found in studios.

MASTERING
Mastering ensures that all the elements which make up the finished mix are ‘glued together’ and sound as a finished record should. This is accomplished using a combination of plug-ins and outboard mastering EQs, compressors and limiters.
There have been few Mastering myths like "I Can Master My Music Myself" & "All the Mastering Engineer Does Is Add A Limiter".
We eventually find out that the music on Radio, TV & Theatre are mastered through a Mastering Engineer.
The secret to a great sounding master is a great sounding mix.

EDITING, TUNING & RESTORATION
Editing
During the tracking phase, there will be multiple takes of vocals and individual instruments recorded. It’s usual for these to be comped (composited) together to make up one track from the best parts of these multiple takes. There will be occasions when re-amping may be required. All guitar and bass cabs are DI’d in addition to microphone recordings. A DI track can be sent out via a re-amp box to an amp and cab and re-recorded if a further alternative track is required. Midi keyboard tracks may need to be edited and quantised, and will need to be converted from midi to audio. Drums will require processing. All drums need to be phase adjusted. Spill between individual drums will also need to be minimised.
Tuning
Tuning vocals is not the most fun you can have in music production, but good preparation makes the tuning process much simpler and more speedy.
Working with Melodyne is like being able to say to a singer “hold this note a bit longer” or to a pianist “give slightly less weight to the third in this chord” – hours, weeks, even years after the recording session.
You can optimise the tiniest details of your recordings, bringing them as close to perfection as you desire.
Audio Repair & Restoration
Quickly reshape your performer’s intonation with Dialogue Contour, allowing you to save or improve a performance in post.
Tools like Dialogue Isolate and Dialogue De-reverb ensure that your audience catches every word with perfect clarity.
With support through Atmos 7.1.2, RX 7 is ready to take on post production jobs in almost any professional multi-channel format, detect noise, clipping, clicks and more. Solve common audio issues faster than ever!
